Verdes FC and Bandits Sports won by large margins in Premier League games Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Opening Season competition continued over the last weekend with 4 games on the schedule.

On Saturday 4th November at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the visiting Verdes FC blasted the host team Placencia Assassins by the score of 5-1.

The Placencia Assassins was the first to score when Luis Torres scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 31st minute of play to his team a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived when Gilroy Thurton scored the equalising goal for the visiting Verdes FC in the 39th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

In the second half of the game, Verdes FC returned back to the scoreboard when Desmond Wade scored in the 54th minute of play and this was followed by Alcides Thomas who scored in the 66th minute of play to give his team a 3-1 lead, and this was followed by Ricardo Jimenez who scored in the 68th minute of play and then the final goal was scored by Alicdes Thomas in the 81st minute of play for the 5-1 victory.

At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the defending champion and current leaders in this year’s Opening Season competition, Bandits Sports, blanked the visiting Freedom Fighters by the score of 7-0.

The goals for the Bandits Sports were scored by Georgie Welcome in the 9th, 59th, 62nd, 87th and 90th minutes of play. He was supported by Carlos Gonzalez who scored in the 20th minute of play and Darwin Bermudez in the 48th minute of play.

The competition then continued on Sunday 5th November, with two more games on the schedule.

At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the visiting San Pedro Pirates edged out Police United by the score of 2-1.

The San Pedro Pirates were the first onto the scoreboard when Hector Martinez scored the 1st goal of the game in the 8th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The first half of the game ended in favour of the San Pedro Pirates.

In the second half of the game, the host team Police United was able to score when Harrison Roches scored the equalising goal in the 51st minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. The final goal of the game was scored by Hector Martinez in the 71st minute of play for the 2-1 victory.

And in the final game played at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, Wagiya and the BDF FC played to a 1-1 draw.

Wagiya’s goal was scored in the 81st minute of play by Latrell Middleton while the goal for the Belize Defence Force FC was scored by Shane Flores in the 91st minute of play.

The regular season will come to an end this coming weekend.
