A visit to the Cayo North Division during the nights will reveal that the area is now being fully illuminated. Through an initiative led by the Hon. Omar Figueroa and in collaboration with the Government of Belize and the Belize Electricity Ltd, over 1,000 Light Emitting Diodes (LED) street lights are being deployed throughout Cayo North. The objective is to replace all existing conventional street lights as well as installation in key areas that currently do not have appropriate lighting. This new technology will provide for brighter, more durable lighting while consuming far less electricity. More importantly though; this investment will help to improve safety and security in the area, be a deterrent for the criminal elements and provide peace of mind for all residents.

The first phase of the project has commenced and will entail installing lights in the areas as follows: Carmelita Street, Awe Street, Alta Vista Street, Alvarado Street, Church Street, Stanton Street, Far West Street, West Street, Benque Viejo Road, Waight’s Avenue, Collins Boulevard, Flamengo Avenue and Theodoso Ochoa.

According to the Hon. Omar Figueroa, other areas in Cayo North will be completed in the phases that will follow. For Cayo North residents the brilliant lights from the Light Emitting Diodes is being accepted with great welcome.
