The strange multiple rape case against a Belize City man, 25-year-old Eric Gutierrez, ended on Monday, November 13, 2017 in a dismissal before Justice Adolph Lucas. When Gutierrez was 20-years-old, he was accused of raping three women, a 36-year old Belizean bartender, a 29-year-old Honduran cook, and a 25-year-old unemployed Guatemalan.

The allegations against Gutierrez are that on September 6, 2013 at around 2:30 a.m. in San Pedro, he raped and stabbed three women with a screw driver. The women were injured on various parts of their bodies. According to the bartender, she left her apartment in San Pedro to purchase food and on her way back, she was attacked with a knife by Gutierrez. She attempted to make it to the apartment of her friend but a struggle ensued. She knocked on the door of the cook and when she opened the door, Gutierrez grabbed for a screw driver and forced himself into a room where the cook and her Guatemalan friend were in.

The women were forced to undress and he proceeded to rape them. According to one victim, one of the women refused to submit and was stabbed until she blacked out. The women claimed to escape only after Gutierrez left to get water for them. They took that opportunity to call a man who came to their aid.

In the Supreme Court, Justice Adolph Lucas dismissed the three charges of rape and three counts of wounding against the accused after the three victims failed to show up to court. According to prosecutor Sherigne Rodriguez, the women were all summoned to court and this is the second time that they have failed to appear in court for the case.

Although the case of rape against Gutierrez was dismissed, he was still not free to go. He is serving a 5 year sentence for a case of burglary which he was accused of in August 2016.
