Today we look at Roaring Lions. In the book of the Prophet Joel chapter 3, verse 16, we read, “The Lord God roars from Zion, and utters His voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth tremble. But the Lord is a refuge for His people, and a stronghold to the sons of Israel.”

Lions communicate through roaring, and have two major categories of roars. These are roaring at other lions, or roaring at prey. The lion is not very swift, nor can it run long enough to catch its prey. So an easy way it hunts is to roar so loud that it stupefies, terrifies, and paralyses its prey. This makes them stay still until it comes to get them, even though they could have outrun the lion if given the chance.

That is what the Bible is referring to when it says in First Peter 5:8, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Sadly many of us have been paralysed in many areas of our life by the roar of the devil. But the good news is our God is not like that lion.

Jesus is the lion of the tribe of Judah and He is roaring inside us, so all we have to do is be sober so we can hear Him, and let Him roar through us. Lions roar at each other, to warn the others off, saying, “This area is mine, so keep off!” This also comforts the cubs that they are secure and protected and make straying cubs return. Today let’s tune in to God’s roar in order to resist the devil so he flees from us!
