The Belize City Council hosted various street games on Albert Street, downtown Belize City on Sunday, November 26, 2017. This was sponsored by the Belize City Council, the Gateway Youth Center, the Youth Apprenticeship Programme, and the Belize Police Department along with the Albert area representative, Hon. Tracy Panton. Youths from across the city were invited to participate in football and basketball games.

The winners of those games qualified for the Street Games Championship, a larger game, which will be held in February 2018 at the Anniversary of the BTL Park. There were a total of 5 teams registered for football while 12 registered teams participated in the basketball tournaments. Winners for basketball and football received $400 each while second place in each sport received $200.

The football champions “3 the Hard Way” competed in a 4-a-side game while basketball champions “The Gorillas” participated in 3 on 3 games. The Collet division will be the next hosting place for the street games which are to take place on December 17, 2017. The games will now be a permanent event for the Belize City Council which is reanimating these in an effort to have the Belize City youth engage in healthy competition with one another.
