The Belize Police Department as well as the Belize Defense Force, the Belize Coast Guard, the Belize Immigration Department, the Belize Transport Department, and the Customs and Excise Department embarked on the 6th annual “Torch Run” carrying the Flame of Home. This activity, which is to last one week, started on Saturday, December 2, 2017 and will journey through various municipalities in an effort to promote awareness about the Special Olympics Belize and its participants.

All departments won’t be participating in all of the week’s activities but they will all come together at the end of the week to participate.

The Torch Run exists as a fundraising venture and according to Inspector Elroy Carcamo, the target is $10,000 in cash. The run started in San Ignacio where funds were being collected from persons passing by. They moved their way up from San Ignacio to Benque Viejo and moved all the way to Belize City all on Monday, December 4, 2017.

Efforts will continue into the populated areas to include San Pedro and both north and south sides of Belize City, Corozal, and Orange Walk. The games will culminate with the official national Special Olympics games on Friday, December 8, 2017 at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex.
