Two men have been charged in connection with the decapitation of a Belizean laborer from Cotton Tree. Twenty-nine-year-old Raphael Mencias was charged for murder while thirty-six-year-old Elroy Grinage was charged for abetment and conspiracy to commit murder on Friday at the Belmopan Magistrate Court. Both men, also of Cotton Tree Village were brought before the court in connection to the death of Hilton Wade and were as a result remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 2, 2018.

As we had noted on our last issue, Hilton Wade’s head was found on November 29th at a bench on a makeshift bus shed at a junction between the villages of Cotton Tree and Harmonyville. Police now have credible evidence linking the duo to the murder; they have information that suggests that the two had threatened Wade prior to his death. Police have also recovered a bloody shoes and a motorbike that may have been utilized to transport the head from the crime site.

Wade’s body was found almost a mile away at his place of residence. The body was found with as many as 26 stab wounds and the abandoned property where he was living was found under flames.
