The Premier League of Belize entered its final round of the 2017 Opening Season with game one of the finals on Sunday 3rd December, 2017, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town between the defending champions and competition favourites the Belmopan Bandits and the determined Verdes FC.

Before a stadium full of football fans and enthusiasts, the host team Verdes FC, were determined to cut the defending champions Belmopan Bandits down to size. The game itself was perhaps one of the best games played in the championship series for a long time when no one gave up any goals in the early goings.

At the end of the first half of the game, the score was 0-0.

The second half of the game commenced where it left off in the first half of the game with both teams playing a heavily defensive game and it was not until the 84th minute of play that Robert Silva de Lima scored the only goal of the game that gave Verdes FC the 1-0 victory.

With the win over the Belmopan Bandits, the Verdes FC is now in the drivers’ seat with a win away from regaining the championship that they lost some three years ago.

And so the season for both teams will come to a start and an end on Saturday 9th December, 2017, when the second and final game in the championship series will be played at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan.
