Air Canada made its first of its twice-weekly flight to Belize on Friday, December 15, 2017, just in time for this Christmas season. This flight will travel between Toronto, Canada at the Pearson International Airport and Belize via the Phillip Goldson Airport in Ladyville. This is expected to enhance the already growing number of Canadian tourists in the country.

All pleased with the arrival of Air Canada were Jorge Espat, C.E.O., Belize Airport Concession Company Limited; Reyna Nieto, Country Manager, Air Canada and Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Espat highlighted that besides the rise in tourism, the flight will provide more jobs and opportunities in Belize. Air Canada has been voted the best airline in North America and this collaboration with Belize allows Belize to build a national brand with this 4-star company. Nieto was happy that the Belize of Canada now has even greater and efficient access to the warm country of Belize and its people.

Air Canada boasts connections in 190 countries and, according to Hon. Heredia, it is hopeful that some of those passengers will hear about and visit Belize. He highlighted the benefits our students will be able to enjoy as well as the business community. “We have been working with those airlines for a while, making sure that they don’t have to go through that Miami stop. A lot of people that want to come to Belize, they are so worried about having to stop or overnight in Miami; today, we have the opportunity through WestJet and Air Canada that you can come directly to Belize in a very short time and you can enjoy more hours of your trip.”

It is also expected that next year, low cost JetBlue flights will be added to the PGIA’s growing list of international connections.
