Shooting in Belama leaves husband dead and wife injured Print E-mail

On Tuesday, January 2, 2018 about 7:40 p.m., police officers responded to a shooting in Belama which had occurred on Maurice Bishop Street in Belama phase two. Upon arrival, police observed the motionless body of a male person apparently dead on the stairs of a two story house. The body was seen with several gunshot wounds.

Initial investigation revealed that earlier that night, Jermaine Ryan Vellos, a 37-year-old Belizean warehouse machine operator of Queens, New York, and his wife Stephanie Nicole Foreman Vellos, a 29-year-old Belizean sales clerk, were both arriving home and while walking up the stairs of the house, two male persons armed and wearing masks emerged from the dark and fired several gunshots in their direction.

Jermaine was hit several times to his body causing his fatal injuries. Stephanie received a gunshot injury to the right leg and was grazed to the left hand. The body of Jermaine Vellos was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where it was pronounced dead. Police are investigating.
