Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a burnt plane that was found in some flatlands off the Coastal Road in Eastern Belize. On Sunday December 31 at around midday, police say they were called out to an area some 2 miles in a road off the Coastal Road where they found the remains of a plane that had been burnt.

In a weekly briefing, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Joseph Myvette explained that the plane was found on an illegal airstrip. He explained that the plane’s remains had been there for several days. There was also no evidence in the area to suggest what it was doing there or if it had any illegal cargo such as drugs inside before it was burnt. The plane’s origin or destination are also unknown.

What is known is that it is a twin engine King Air Beach Craft. As for the landing area, the Belize Defence Force from time to time conducts operations to destroy them by blowing holes into the landing strip.
