Orange Walk Police are currently on a man hunt for 26 year-old Andy Rhaburn, a resident of Carmelita Village. They believe that he bludgeoned his mother, 53 year-old Braulia Pech, a domestic and a shop owner in the village.

Police say that on Tuesday, January 16, they received information of an assault, and they visited Pech’s home in the Spanish Town area. In her yard, under a tree, they found her suffering from a huge gash to the left side of her head which was bleeding profusely. Police and her family worked to quickly rush her to the Northern Regional Hospital for emergency medical treatment. She succumbed while the doctors were trying to save her life.

Initial investigation has indicated that Pech was under a plantain tree in her yard. It is uncertain what sort of disagreement happened between Pech and her son, Rhaburn. It is believed, however, that he clubbed her to the left side of the head with the crowbar, causing the deadly injury.

Police say that while fleeing the scene of the assault of his mother, he allegedly struck another woman, 43 year-old Lilia Xujur, who’s also a resident of the village. That injury that he inflicted on Xujur was also an injury to the head. Fortunately, the cut wound that opened up from the blunt force did not claim her life. She was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital in a stable condition. There was another resident who saw the entire incident unfolding with Xujur’s attack, and he told the press that he came to her aid, only to end up in a scuffle.

Trying to catch him, police dispatched teams all over Carmelita to search for him, but up until press time, he has still not been located.

Pech’s other children are very hurt by her tragic murder, but they are especially aggrieved by the fact that it is their brother who’s being accused of killing her.

They say that he was a habitual drug user, and that he refused to become financially independent. He did not have a job, and would depend on his mother to support him, the same woman he’s now being accused of killing. They suspect that he went to her to beg for money, and that he may have gotten upset because she turned him down.

Carmelita villagers tell the press that Rhaburn displayed violent behavior toward his family several times in the past, and that he reportedly burnt his mother’s house down. Family members say that he was on medication as he suffers of some level of mental illness. It is believed that at the time of the attack he may have been off the medication.
