Andy Rhaburn, who has been accused of beating his mother to death with a crowbar in Carmelita, has been on the run from the police for almost a week. The murder of his mother occurred on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 and, since then, Rhaburn has been eluding the police. There were many sightings of Rhaburn between Carmelita and Crooked Tree villages up until his capture.

Almost a week later, on Monday, January 22, 2018, Orange Walk police finally caught Rhaburn in the vicinity of Rhaburn’s Ridge on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Rhaburn came wielding a machete and had to be subdued with a single shot, which caught him on the left arm and hip. No charges have been levied since he is under police guard at the Northern Regional Hospital for his wounds.

Rhaburn allegedly brutally murdered his mother, 54-year-old Braulia Pech, and while it is still unclear what transpired, Rhaburn’s siblings and other villagers believe that it was a disagreement over money. Pech was found bleeding from a large cut wound on her head. After Rhaburn attacked his mother, a second woman was attacked and it wasn’t until a villager intervened that she managed to escape with her life.
