Shereffa Jex, a 24-year-old resident of Burrell Boom, is being accused of unlawful imprisonment of 2 persons, an adult and his cousin, who is a minor. Jex is also being accused of aggravated burglary after she entered the home of a woman in the village.

Jex was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser on Monday, January 22, 2018. There, she was read two offenses of unlawful imprisonment and one count of aggravated burglary. In court, she was represented by attorney Leroy Jex, who submitted that bail should be granted to his client since she is a mother of two children, one of who still needs to be breastfed. Despite her apprehensions, the magistrate granted Jex bail in the sum of $4,000 plus one surety of the same with the condition that she stays away from the virtual complainants. Jex is due back in court on April 5, 2018.

The allegation being made by Young against Jex is that he was home with his cousin when two men and a woman, who he identified as Jex entered their yard and held them hostage with a knife, which she took from inside the house, and beat them up. Inside the house at the time were 40-year-old Marcella Salvador, her son and her nephew. The trio claimed that they were questioned about a missing gold bracelet.
