A senior citizen from Unitedville in the Cayo District, who had been attacked by killer bees over a week ago, has died. Sixty-two-year-old Omar Cruz was clearing the undergrowth near an abandoned building when a swarm of Africanized bees enveloped him. His son was assisting in the clean-up, but escaped unhurt.

On a daily basis children from Unitedville frequent near the abandoned building in the morning. The area is also regularly visited by tourists.

Chairman of Unitedville Mike Juan has informed the media that he will be contacting the Belize Agriculture Health Authority for assistance in getting rid of the ‘killer bees.’  If BAHA does not respond then he will be getting someone else to do the job.
