Police have arrested and charged 37 year-old Robert Brown, a resident of Ladyville for the crime of murder. The cops believe that Brown stabbed his fellow Ladyville resident, 41 year-old Gavin Palmerson, to death.

Ladyville police responded to a stabbing incident at an apartment building on Barrier Reef Drive, Vista del Mar after 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2018. Upon arrival, the officers observed the lifeless body of a male person lying face up in what appeared to be a pool of blood. That man was later identified as Gavin Palmerston, a 41-year-old Belize resident of Ladyville.

Earlier that evening, Palmerston had gone to visit a friend, Stephanie Coe, who was at the residence of her friend. Coe’s ex-common-law husband, Robert Brown, came to the location and punched Coe in her mouth. He approached Palmerston and an argument ensued between him and Palmerston. The verbal altercation soon turned physical and Palmerson sustained 4 stab wounds to the back as a result. Palmerston staggered to the kitchen area of the apartment and collapsed on the floor while Brown made his escape. All of this is alleged to have played out in the plain view of children, including those shared by Brown and Coe, compounding the tragedy.

The body of Palmerston was transported to the KHMH where it was pronounced dead and now awaits a post mortem examination.

According to ASP Alejandro Cowo, the investigation reveals that Palmerston and Coe were engaged in a regular friendly conversation. Although Brown’s family is claiming self defense, there is no evidence to suggest that Palmerston in anyway provoked Brown. There is no reported history of threats or acts of violence between the two men.

Brown later handed himself over to the police and on Sunday, January 28, 2018, he was arrested and charged with the crime of murder. On Monday, January 29, 2018, he was arraigned before Magistrate Michelle Trapp where he was represented by attorney Kareem Musa.

Brown was read a single charge of murder for the stabbing death of Palmerston. No plea was taken and given the nature of the offense, bail was denied. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until March 28, 2018.

The families of all involved have refused to grant any comments to the press, but the unanswered question remains. Why did Brown attack the two? Brown’s family has suggested to the press that there were prior instances of provocation, but no details were shared about what this supposed provocation was.
