The sensational evening murder of Jamaal Paul Jex happened on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 just after 5 p.m. on Crocodile Street in the San Pedrito area of San Pedro. Jex and Deon Neal, a resident of Caye Caulker, were approached by 2 persons who fired shots in their direction. While Neal did not die as a result of the shooting, Jex was fatally wounded.

Three persons have since been charged in connection to Jex’s murder. Those persons are 19-year-old Nelson Paguada and a 15-year-old minor, both fishermen of the San Mateo area, along with 45-year-old Timothy Carcamo, a fisherman of the San Juan area. It is said that the three men waylaid Jex and Neal, opened fire, and then hurriedly left the area on a boat.

The three men were arraigned on the Belize City Magistrate’s Court for security reasons on Monday, January 29, 2018 where they appeared before Senior Magistrate Sharon Frazer. The men both denied their involvement but were denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central until April 27, 2018 while the minor was remanded to the Wagner’s Youth Facility.
