Verdes FC maintain lead in Premier League Closing Season Print E-mail

The 2017-2018 Premier League of Belize Closing Season continued over the weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Sunday 28th January, out at the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) Stadium in Belmopan, the defending champion and current leader in this year’s Closing Season Verdes FC defeated the host team the Belize Defence Force FC by the score of 3-1.

The visiting Verdes FC was the first that made it onto the scoreboard when Brandon Jones scored the 1st goal of the game in the 16th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Jarret Davis scored the 2nd goal of the game in the 19th minute of play to give his team a 2-0 lead.

Well into the first half of the game, the lead was further extended when Desmond Wade scored the 3rd goal of the game in the 36th minute of play to give Verdes a 3-0 lead.

The first half of the game ended 3-0 in favour of Verdes FC.

It was not until the second half of the game that the Belize Defence Force FC, was able to made it onto the scoreboard when Trimayne Harris scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 54th minute of play via a penalty kick.

Meanwhile, out at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, the Freedom Fighters blasted Wagiya FC by the score of 6-0.

The goals for the Freedom Fighters were scored by Chakey Martinez in the 9th minute of play, Evan Mariano in the 32nd minute of play, Zidane Hines in the 35th minutes of play, Gabriel Ramos in the 73rd and 75th minutes of play and Myron Cadle in the 91st minute of play for the win.

And on Saturday 27th January, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Belmopan Bandits SC edged out Police United FC by the score of 2-1.

The Belmopan Bandits SC was the first on the scoreboard when Darwin Bermudez scored the 1st goal of the game in the 21st minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Hector Martinez scored his team 2nd goal of the game in the 37th minute of play to give it a 2-0 lead.

The visiting Police United FC finally made it onto the scoreboard when Andres Makin scored his team only goal of the game in the 59th minute of play to cut the deficit in half.

While out at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the Placencia Assassins FC shut-out the San Pedro Pirates FC by the score of 1-0.

Ashton Torres scored the only goal of the game in the 29th minute of play to give the Placencia Assassins the victory.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
