There are two stories going about in Belmopan, the first is that the PUP is fighting to get into the homes of people to campaign and the other is that the UDP is fighting to get out after they get in.

It is with this kind of attitude that the Belmopan City Council slate officially launched its team and campaign in the Capital City of Belmopan at the May Gordon Park on Thursday February 1. The event took place in the presence of Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow; Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Patrick Faber, Belmopan Area Rep. Hon. John Saldivar; Belize City Mayor Darrell Bradley and Belize City Mayoral candidate Dion Leslie.

On this Thursday it was a double event as it was also Mayor Belisle’s birthday and making reference to Belmopan as a cake, he said it was already baked all that was needed was for people to come out and vote and wait for the counting. He noted that the voters had taken a chance on him and his team three years ago and it was with a great sense of gratitude that he was returning to the people for their support once again. He added that election time is report card time and he had no fear that the people would grade his team as having passed after having worked so hard for them over the past three years. Belisle stated that as the team goes house to house the voters are saying that they will be returned to office.

Also addressing the gathering was Belmopan Area Representative, Hon. John Saldivar who expressed with great relief that Belisle’s performance has made his job as an Area Representative that much easier.

Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow also spoke to those gathered and was confident saying that the people of Belmopan would return the UDP to office. Dispelling concerns of voter fatigue he noted that voters are not about to stop the progress and transformation that the UDP has brought to Belmopan. He stated that nothing will stop or deter the residents from voting for the UDP because people of capital city deserve the transformation. He took time out to especially praise Mayor Belisle expressing that he has a spellbindingly ability to articulate noting that he talks perfect sense and shown that he is committed to the people of Belmopan. His finest quality, he said, is his absolute humility and his ability to communicate with young, old and everyone in between. “Belmopan and Belize were blessed on the day Khalid was born” stated PM Barrow. Speaking on the work done in the Capital the Prime Minister noted that while nationally the UDP has done a stupendous job of work it is far more pronounced in Belmopan given the size of the city. He ended stating that “Khalid and the UDP seven deserve an enthusiastic endorsement and they will continue to serve the people of Belmopan to make the city even more beautiful”.
