Jealous rage leads to stabbing incident Print E-mail

Darrel Alvarez, a 31-year-old known criminal figure, was arraigned on Monday, February 12, 2018 for the broad daylight stabbing of Rhonda Burgess. The incident occurred on Thursday, February 8, 2018 on Gill Street where according to a police report, 35-year-old Rhonda Burgess and her boyfriend, Erick Tillett, were at their Gill Street home when they were both attacked and stabbed to various parts of their body.

According to the police report, the couple was at their Gill Street home when Alvarez stormed in and began to stab the couple with a knife. According to Burgess’s sister, Burgess was seen with stab wounds to her back and arm while her brother-in-law was seen with stab wounds to the face. Older allegations against Alvarez are that about a week prior to the stabbing incident, Alvarez visited a family home in Port Loyola and damaged their pipe and stole their meter. Alvarez, according to Burgess’s sister, has been terrorizing their family.

Alvarez, who happens to be Burgess’s ex-boyfriend and who has an arson charge pending trial in the Belize City Supreme Court, was arraigned for the offenses of aggravated assault and wounding upon Burgess, to which he pleaded not guilty. He has not yet been charged for the crime against Tillett.

For the most recent crime, he appeared before Magistrate Khadeen Palmer where he was read the two offenses. While he pleaded not guilty to the offenses, bail was denied. He was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until March 14, 2018.
