Senior Citizen gagged and burglarized by friend Print E-mail

Floyd Escarpeta, a 23-year-old construction worker of Mahogany Heights, George Price Highway is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after being arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 12, 2018 for the offenses of burglary and theft. In court, Escarpeta appeared unrepresented before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser where he pleaded not guilty to both charges.

There was objection to bail being granted given that the 92-year-old victim was gagged when his home was burglarized. Persecutor in the case, Inspector Egbert Castillo, also submitted that the victim knew his attackers well because from time to time, they would stop at his home for help. Castillo is of the belief that the police have a very strong case against Escarpeta as the victim named him as one of the attackers. As a result, bail was denied and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until May 14, 2018.

Escarpeta is being accused of entering the home of 92-year-old Modesto Bardalez and stealing his vehicle key, a Samsung Smart cell phone, a pair of rubber boots, a machete, other assorted tools, and a radio all to a total value of $335.00. He was additionally charged with one count of theft for stealing the victim’s 2-door Ford pickup truck.
