Shots rang out in Orange Walk on Sunday, February 11, 2018 after 8:40 p.m. Police then visited the Northern Regional Hospital Emergency Room where they observed Amin Mendez Jr., a 24-year-old Belizean student of an Orange Walk Town address, with a single apparent gunshot wound. That wound was seen on his lower left leg with an exit wound at the back of his calf. There, they also saw Jessica Melendez, a 20-year-old Belizean businesswoman, with a single gunshot wound to the left side of her right knee.

Initial investigation revealed that about 8:34 p.m. while Mendez and Melendez were inside Mendez’s store, AMINCI’S Grocery Store, situated at the corner of Liberty Avenue and Boundary Road, a male person entered the store and pointed a hand gun at Mendez. He fired multiple gun shots in his direction, causing the injuries to both persons. He then ran away making good his escape. Both persons were treated and released. Police investigation continues and one person is being sought in connection to this incident.
