A late night shooting in the normally quiet King’s Park area of Belize City has led to the death of 35-year-old Luis Dominguez, better known as Esse. Up until his murder, Dominguez was employed as a sanitation worker with the Belize City Council. According to Dion Leslie, City Councilor, Dominguez was changing his life and was happy to be employed with the council. Unfortunately for him, he would be shot, despite his attempts at changing his life.

The shooting took place just before midnight on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at a home on Eight Street in King’s Park. Dominguez was at the family home for a memorial. As night set in, he became too tired to drive his motorcycle home and started to doze off. He was sitting around a table in the yard when he was approached by a gunman who sprayed a barrage of bullets on Dominguez. He was considered family in the yard where his life was taken away; he died on the spot.

According to police, upon arrival at the scene, Dominguez’s body was found lying face up in the street. It is understood that Dominguez was at the yard from earlier in the day with other persons up until his murder. After shooting Dominguez, the gunman ran from Eight Street into Twelfth Street and fired more shots in the area.

A motive has not yet been established and police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area of the crime. Dominguez had previously had minor run-ins with the law but nothing having to do with shootings or other major offenses. He leaves behind a son and an unborn child.
