A Western Paradise Village resident is on remand at the Belize Central Prison after he was arraigned on a single charge of theft before Chief Magistrate Sharon Fraser on Thursday, February 15, 2018. That man is George McFadzean, a 35-year-old construction worker who appeared unrepresented before the magistrate.

The allegations against McFadzean are that on Saturday, February 10, 2018, he dishonestly appropriated a black .38 pistol valued at $2,500 from Kumar Cocom, a Belize Recovery Officer at the Heritage Bank. In court, he pleaded not guilty to the charge but the prosecutor in the case had objections stating that the gun is still missing. The prosecutor in the case also said that the case against McFadzean was strong based on the report made by the virtual complainant.

Because McFadzean was unable to give any special reasons as to why bail should be granted, bail was denied in the first instance. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 11, 2018.
