Belmopan Bandits and Verdes FC play to a Draw in Premier League competition Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Closing Season Competition continued over the last weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Saturday 17th February, 2018, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the defending national football champions of Belize Verdes FC and the Belmopan Bandits, in its first facing of each other in this year’s competition, played to a 1-1 draw.

The home team Belmopan Bandits SC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Darwin Bermudez scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 47th minute of play to give it a temporary lead.  However, the lead was shot lived when Verdes’ FC Alcides Thomas scored the equalising goal for his team in the 50th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

The competition then continued on Sunday 18th February, at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan where the Belize Defence Force (BDF FC) edged out the Police United FC by the score of 3-2.

The BDF FC was the first to score in the game when Trimayne Harris scored the 1st goal of the game in the 15th minute of via a penalty kick to give his team an early lead. The Police United FC then made it onto the scoreboard when Amin August Jr. scored the equalising goal in the 35th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

In the second half of the game, Police United FC took the lead when Rodrigo Vasquez scored the go-ahead goal in the 53rd minute of play via a penalty kick to give his team a 2-1 lead.

The BDF FC down but not out of the game, came roaring back when Mark Arzu scored the equalising goal in the 71st minute of play to tie the score at 2-2. Keithon Dyer scored the 3rd and final goal of the game for the BDF FC in the 74th minute of play to give his team the victory.

Out at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, Placencia Assassins FC and Wagiya FC played to a 1-1 draw.

Wagiya FC was the first to score when Jonard Castillo scored the 1st goal of the game in the 29th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The host team Wagiya, took the 1-0 lead well into the second half of the game and it was not until when Luis Torres scored the equalising goal in the 72nd minute of play to tie the score at 1-1, that the Wagiya’s defence allowed the visiting Placencia Assassins FC to penetrate its defence.

And in the final game of the day played out at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town, the San Pedro Pirates defeated Freedom Fighters by the score of 4-1.

The goals for the San Pedro Pirates were scored by Inri Gonzaga in the 25th minute of play and Luis Mencia in the 45th, 49th and 56th minutes of play. Meanwhile, the only goal of the game for the Freedom Fighter was scored by Gabriel Ramos in the 43rd minute of play.

The competition will continue this coming weekend.
