Belmopan Bandits SC is the new leader in the Premier League of Belize Closing Season Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Closing Season competition continued over the last week of play, which saw the Belmopan Bandits SC winning twice in one week to become the new leaders in the on-going competition.

On Saturday 24th February, 2018, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the league’s leading Belmopan Bandits SC edged out the Belize Defence Force FC by the score of 2-1.

The visiting BDF FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Shane Flores scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 27th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short-lived as Rony Flores scored the equalising goal for the Belmopan Bandits SC in the 29th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

The first half of the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The second half of the game commenced and picked up where the teams left off at the first half with nobody giving up any more goals. It was not until the 65th minute of play that Elroy Smith finally penetrated the BDF’s defence and scored his goal that give the Belmopan Bandits SC the 2-1 victory.

Meanwhile, out at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the home team Placencia Assassins FC edged out the Freedom Fighters by the score of 3-2.

The Freedom Fighters FC was the first onto the scoreboard when an own goal by Leonel Cabral in the 3rd minute of play give the Freedom Fighters FC an early lead. However, that lead was further when Dellon Torres scored his team’s 1st goal of the game in the 12th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. The go-ahead goal for the Placencia Assassins FC came when Rollin Burgess scored in the 30th minute of play.

The first half of the game ended 2-1 in favour of the Placencia Assassins FC.

The second half of the game commenced from where it left off at the conclusion of the first half with the Placencia Assassins FC enjoying a 2-1 lead. That lead was further increased when Luis Torres scored his team’s 3rd goal of the game in the 74th minute of play for a 3-1 lead. The visiting Freedom Fighters were able to cut the lead by a goal when Evan Mariano scored in the 76th minute of play. At the end of the long whistle it was a 3-2 victory for the Placencia Assassins FC.

The competition then continued on Sunday 25th February with two more games on the schedule.

At the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Police United FC edged out the visiting Verdes FC by the score of 2-1, to hand it their 2nd defeat of the season.

The Police United FC was the first onto the scoreboard when an own goal by Brandon Jones in the 15th minute of play give them an early lead.

In the second half of the game, Andres Makin scored in the 60th minute of play to give Police United a 2-0 lead. It was not until the 92nd minute of play that an own goal by Cristobal Gilharry, put the defending champions onto the scoreboard.

And at the San Pedro Stadium in San Pedro Town, the host team San Pedro Pirates defeated the visiting Wagiya FC by the score of 3-1.

The San Pedro Pirates was the first onto the scoreboard when Mario Chimal scored the 1st goal of the game in the 9th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The lead was increased when Jesse Smith scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 65th minute of play to give his team a 2-0 lead. The lead was further increased when Inri Gonzaga scored his team’s 3rd goal of the game in the 60th minute of play for a 3-0 lead.

Wagiya was able to make it onto the scoreboard when Jonard Castillo scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 78th minute of play to cut the deficit to a 3-1 game. However, it came too late too little.

And then on Wednesday 21st February at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the Belmopan Bandits SC blanked Wagiya FC by the score of 2-0.

The goals for the Belmopan Bandits SC were scored by Rony Flores in the 48th minute of play and Elroy Smith in the 89th minute of play for the win.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
