San Pedro Tiger Sharks maintain lead in Pepsi National Elite Basketball League competition Print E-mail

The San Pedro Tiger Sharks continues to maintain its lead and dominance of the on-going Pepsi National Elite Basketball competition when it defeated the defending champions the Belmopan Bandits by the score of 95-91 on Saturday 3rd March, at the San Pedro High School auditorium in San Pedro Town.

The top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were Jihad Wright with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals; Martevuius Adams with 24 points to go along with his 6 rebounds and Ashton Edwards who scored 18 points and 4 rebounds and 2 assists for the win.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for the defending champions the Belmopan Bandits were Luther da Shane Page with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals, Leon Jacob who scored 16 points grabbed 2 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and Gregory Rudon who scored 13 points along with his 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

At the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Building in Orange Walk Town, Verdes won its second game of the season when it defeated the winless Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 73-66.

The top scorers for the Verdes squad were Richard Troyer who scored 22 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, dished out 2 assists and had a steal; Gene Myvett who scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals and Elsworth Itza who contributed 12 points along with 3 rebounds and a steal.

For the Orange Walk Running Rebels, the top scorers were James Ewing with 23 points and 3 rebounds and 1 assist and Roger Reneau with 16 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

And at the St. Catherine Mercy Centre, the Dangriga Dream Ballers defeated the Digicell Belize City Defenders by the score of 74-70. The top scorers for the Dangriga Dream Ballers were Edgar Mitchell with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and a steal; Brandon Flowers who scored 16 points and 5 rebounds and Daniel Conorquie who scored 12 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

For the Digicell Belize City Defenders, the top scorers were Nigel Jones with 25 points and 12 rebounds; Darwin Leslie with 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 assists and a steal and Francis Arana with 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

On Friday 2nd March, at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, the visiting Smart Belize Hurricanes defeated Verdes by the score of 79-74.

The top scorers for the Smart Belize Hurricanes were Kurt Burgess with 17 points to go along with his 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals; Akeem Watters with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal and Glency Lopez who also scored 16 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals.

For the Verdes team, the top scorers were Richard Troyer with 22 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals; Darnell Odem with 16 points, 3 rebounds and a steal and Isiah Thomas who scored 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with three games on the schedule. On Friday 9th March, 2018 at the St. Catherine Mercy Centre in Belize City at 9:00 pm, the Digicell Belize City Defenders will go up against the Smart Belize Hurricanes for basketball supremacy in the city.

On Saturday 10th March, at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town at 9:00 pm, the league’s leading San Pedro Tiger Sharks will entertain Verdes while at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town it will be the Orange Walk Running Rebels against the Dangriga Dream Ballers.
