Verdes FC enter winning column again in Premier League Closing Season competition Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Closing Season competition continued on Sunday 4th March with three games on the schedule.

At the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the defending national football champions Verdes FC returned to its winning ways when it defeated Wagiya FC by the score of 4-1.

Verdes FC was the first to score when its perennial goal scorer Alcides Thomas scored the 1st goal of the game in the 29th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short-lived when Kenton Flores scored the equalising goal for Wagiya FC in the 40th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. Jarret Davis then untie the score for Verdes FC when he scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 45th minute of play for a 2-1 lead.

And so the first half of the game ended 2-1 in favour of the defending national football champions Verdes FC.

In the second half of the game, Verdes FC scored two more times to out-score the host team Wayiga, and in the process picking up its fifth win of the Closing Season.

Elroy Kuylen scored the 3rd goal of the game for Verdes FC in the 66th minute of play to extend his team’s lead to 3-1. Meanwhile, Krisean Lopez scored the 4th and final goal of the game for Verdes FC in the 87th minute of play to give his team the 4-1 victory.

At the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, the Belize Defence Force FC blanked the Freedom Fighters by the score of 3-0.

The goals for the Belize Defence Force FC were scored by Trimayne Harris in the 8th minute of play, Jaren Lambey in the 39th minute of play and Shane Flores in the 94th minute of play.

In the final game of the day played out at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Police United FC clip the San Pedro Pirates FC by the score of 3-1.

The Police United FC squad was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Amin August Jr, score the 1st goal of the game in the 31st minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was extended when Daniel Jimenez scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 53rd minute of play for a 2-0 lead. However, Carlos Pertuz was able to convert a penalty kick in the 81st minute of play to score the San Pedro Pirates FC only goal of the game to cut the deficit in half. Marlon Meza scored the Police United FC 3rd and final goal of the game in the 89th minute of play for the 3-1 victory.

On Saturday 3rd March, 2018, in the only game played at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, between the Belmopan Bandits SC and the Placencia Assassins FC. The host team Belmopan Bandits SC defeated the Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 3-1. The Belmopan Bandits were the first onto the scoreboard when George Welcome scored the 1st goal of the game in the 12th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was further increased when Elroy Smith scored his team’s 2nd goal of the game in the 32nd minute of play to give his team a 2-0 lead. Rony Flores then scored the 3rd and final goal of the game in the 36th minute of play to give his team a commanding 3-0 lead.

The first half of the game ended 3-0 in favour of the Belmopan Bandits SC.

In the second half of the game, the visiting Placencia Assassins FC was able to create some stirring when Rollin Burgess scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 57th minute of play to cut the deficit to a 3-1 game. However, it was not enough as at the sound of the long whistle in was indeed a victory for the Belmopan Bandits.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four games on the schedule.
