Attempting to fix a faulty tractor has caused an Orange Walk resident to lose his life around 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2018. Elio Grajalez was reportedly fixing a tractor that had mechanical problems when the machine ran over him in San Luis, Orange Walk.

According to Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino, CIB, Orange Walk police found the 49-year-old victim in a face up position with injuries to the face, head, and mouth when they visited the location. Grajalez’s brother, Orlando Castillo, told the police that his brother was attempting to operate the tractor when he noticed that it was having mechanical problems. Castillo says that he left his brother looking to see what the problem was and shortly after he found him under the tractor. Castillo assumes that Grajalez left the tractor in gear and when it eventually started, it ran over him.

The tractor was found about 15 of 16 feet away from Grajalez and the tractor seemingly ran into a vehicle and caused it to overturn before it came to a stop. No one else was in the area. Police investigations continue.
