Corozal Police continue to detain several persons in their efforts to try and solve the murder of 41 year-old Mark Anthony Clarke, a resident of Corozal Town. The cops found his body off the San Jomal Road, a few miles away from Paraiso Village.

Police say that at around 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2018, they visited a location about 200 yards off the San Jomal road. That’s where the cops found Clarke’s body. Someone stabbed him multiple times to the chest and abdomen area, and his throat was slashed as well. Reports to the press are that Clarke suffered a number of stab wounds.

It is believed that Clarke was murdered somewhere else, and that his killer or killers disposed of his body at this location, near the slaughterhouse. Those living in Corozal tell the press that residents living near this area are used to it being used as a sort of garbage dump site.

Following the discovery, investigators conducted several house searches, and vehicle searches of persons they suspected of having some sort of connection to Clarke’s killing. Unfortunately, none of their efforts thus far have yielded any sort of results.

Assistant Police Commissioner Joseph Myvette, the Head of the National Criminal Investigations Branch told the press that they are seeking help from the public to solve this case.

Myvette said, “Police investigation have since led to the detention of several persons who were interviewed. They [the cops]… are following several other leads. Any information that the public can assist the police with, at this point in time, will be greatly appreciated, in order for us to conclude this investigation.”

Though Myvette did not concede to it in the press conference, it can be inferred that police are having difficulties making progress in Clarke’s fatal stabbing. He confirmed that the victim’s girlfriend is among those persons they have detained pending investigation.

Information to the press is that Clarke held a party at his home on Wednesday, 3 days before he was found dead. His landlord reportedly last saw him the following day on Thursday, when he went to pay his rent. On Friday night, hours before his body was discovered mutilated, he was reportedly spotted having a few drinks at a bar in Corozal. Sources in Corozal say that his vehicle was found at his home, and nothing has been discovered so far to suggest that the fatal stabbing happened there.
