Josue Tut Cabrera, a 16 year-old resident of the Belize Corozal Road, just outside of Orange Walk Town, is trying to recover from very serious injuries he suffered after being run over by a cane truck. He was assaulted by a young man, and in the aftermath of that attack, he collapsed in the middle of the road, which made a bad situation even worse.

Video footage captured from a surveillance camera nearby shows that some time after midnight on Saturday, March 10, Cabrera was walking, most likely on his way home. The footage captures when he was attacked by two young men, one of whom punched him in the face causing him to collapse in the middle of the Belize Corozal Road.

Less than a minute later, Cabrera is seen trying to sit up, dazed from the hit to the head, and he then tries to roll away, out of the path of the incoming sugar cane truck. Unfortunately, he was not fast enough, and the truck is seen running over him.

His sister told the press that he suffered major injuries from that truck. He’s now trying to heal from a punctured lung, which is passing blood; 5 broken ribs, and a serious injury to his liver as well. His family is hoping that he will be able to recover, as best as possible, given the internal injuries he suffered.

He has already endured surgeries at the Northern Regional Hospital to try to address the injuries he suffered.

Police have since detained the truck driver, 33 year old, Sergio Talango of an Orange Walk address. Urine sample was obtained and he was served with a Notice of Intended Persecution.
