Digicell Belize City Defenders stop Smart Belize Hurricanes in Pepsi National Elite Basketball League competition Print E-mail

The Pepsi National Elite Basketball League competition continued over the last weekend with three games on the schedule.

On Friday 9th March, at the St. Catherine Academy Mercy Centre, the Digicell Belize City Defenders defeated the Smart Belize Hurricanes by the score of 85-67.

The top scorers for the Digicell Belize City Defenders were Nigel Jones with 27 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal; Jacob Leslie who scored 16 points and Lincey Lopez who contributed 12 points a rebound, 8 assists and 4 steals.

For the Smart Belize Hurricanes, the top scorers were Brian white with 15 points, 14 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal; Kurt Burgess who scored 13 points to go along with his7 rebounds and Tyson Reynold who contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds in a losing effort.

On Saturday 10th March, at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the league’s leading San Pedro Tiger Sharks continued on its winning path when it defeated Verdes by the score of 92-68.

The top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were Martevuius Adams with 19 points, 7 rebounds, and an assist; Jamal Kelly with 17 points, 1 rebound, and 6 assists and a steal and Andrew Ortiz with 13 points, 7 rebounds, and a steal.

Meanwhile, the top scorers for Verdes were Richard Troyer with 32 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals and Gene Myvett who contributed 8 points, to go along with his 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals.

And in the game played out at the Orange Walk Multi-Purpose Complex in Orange Walk Town, the Dangriga Dream Ballers defeated the Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 85-70.

The top scorers for the Dangriga Dream Ballers were Daniel Nolberto with 21 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals; Edgar Mitchell with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists and Daniel Conorquie with 11 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. For the Orange Walk Running Rebels, the top scorers were James Ewing with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal; Elvis Olivera with 14 points and 3 rebounds and Roger Reneau with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with three more games on the schedule.
