Farmer shoots at eyes in the dark leaving three injured Print E-mail

While several murders and shooting incidents happened in Belize City, an isolated case in Punta Gorda has left three people wounded. On Sunday, March 18, 2018, police responded to a shooting incident at the New Road area in Punta Gorda and found Raphael Choj Sr., a 44-year-old farmer, along with Raphael Choj Jr., a 12-year-old student, and Ernesto Choj, a 14-year-old student, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Initial investigation revealed that Santo Cucul, a 57-year-old farmer of New Road area, was going to his corn field when he saw a pair of eyes in the bushes alongside the creek, which he thought was a raccoon. As a result, he fired his 16 gauge shotgun which resulted in the victims’ injuries. All three person were transported to the Punta Gorda Hospital were Raphael Jr. and Ernesto were treated and released; however, Raphael Sr. is admitted for observation. Police are investigating.
