A team from Microsoft lectured Chief Executive Officers from within the Government on Wednesday morning at the Central Information Technology Office in Belmopan on the digital tools now available within Microsoft ‘s Office 365. Such educational sessions for public officers continues Thursday at the George Price Center.

Microsoft and the Government of Belize signed an MOU in June of last year aimed at helping the government meet its National Digital Transformation Goals. As a result, Microsoft in collaboration with the Central Information Technology Office (CITO),  conducted an introduction session on Microsoft’s Office 365 for these public officers. The partnership reinforces the Government of Belize’s effort in improving the skills of public officers by adopting the latest technology that can lead to national development.

In Belize, the use of digital tools for greater team work is now being pioneered by the Ministry of Tourism. As was made clear by a CITO representative, it is much cheaper to build a rack of servers than to build the traditional physical space for document, which after some 20 years begin to deteriorate.

A Microsoft expert told the CEO’s that using these digital tools from Office 365, provide chat, avenues for team work and the sharing of information in a secure environment, where information can be retrieved at a moment’s notice. The Microsoft Team now in Belize functions at a Regional level out of Puerto Rico and oversees thirteen Regional Governments that are now on Microsoft’s platform.
