On Saturday March 24, 2018 at about 11:30 p.m. while officers were conducting a mobile patrol on Cemetery Road, their attention was drawn to a man who was identified as Mark August, a 20-year-old resident of a Mahogany Street address. He was seen riding a bicycle on Cemetery Road.

The officers informed him that a search would be conducted on him. He then took an object from his pants pocket and threw it on the side of the street. Upon taking a look at the object, the officers noticed that it was a Smith and Wesson .38 Snub Nose revolver with six rounds of ammunition.

As a result, the officers asked August, if he had a gun license. He said that he did not and that he had in fact just found the firearm. He was arrested and charged for kept firearm without a gun license and kept ammunition without a license.

August appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. Unfortunately for August, he was denied bail due to the nature of the offense and was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until May 31, 2018.
