Wagiya FC puts brake on the Belmopan Bandits SC Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Closing Season continued on Saturday 24th March with three games on the schedule and on Sunday 25th March, 2019, with a single game.

On Saturday 24th March, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, Wagiya FC edged out the Belmopan Bandits SC by the score of 2-1 to pick up its 2nd win of the Closing Season campaign.

The host team Belmopan Bandits SC was the first onto the scoreboard when Khalil Velasquez scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 10th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The Belmopan Bandits SC defence was able to protect the slim lead, and at the end of the first half of the game it was a 1-0 lead affair in favour of the Belmopan Bandits SC.

The Bandits took the slim lead well into the second half of the game and it was not until Jacinto Bermudez was able to penetrate the Belmopan Bandits SC defence in the 61st minute of play that Wagiya was able to make it onto the scoreboard to tie the score at 1-1. Wagiya’s Jonard Castillo then scored the final goal of the game in the 83rd minute of play to give his team the 2-1 victory.

Out at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, the defending champions Verdes FC blanked the home team the Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 2-0.

Alcides Thomas scored the 1st goal of the game for his team in the 25th minute of play to give it a 1-0 lead. In fact, that was the only goal that was really needed, however, Jarret Davis scored the 2nd goal of the game in the 37th minute of play to give Verdes FC a 2-0 lead.

At the sound of the long whistle, Verdes FC walked away easily with the whitewash win.

Earlier in the evening at the MCC Grounds, the Belize Defence Force Fc blasted the San Pedro Pirates FC by the score of 4-0.

The goals for the Belize Defence Force FC were scored by Jaren Lambey in the 34th minute of play and he was followed by Trimayne Harris who scored in the 75th and 78th minutes of play. The final goal of the game was scored by Kelker Palacio in the 93rd minute of play for the 4-0 win.

And on Sunday 25th March, at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, the host team Freedom Fighters edged out the visiting Police United FC by the score of 2-1.

The Freedom Fighters were the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Enfield Arzu scored the 1st goal of the game in the 25th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.

The Police United FC finally made it onto the scoreboard when Trevor Lennon scored the equalising goal in the 75th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

Alexander Peters untied the score when he scored the Freedom Fighters 2nd and final goal of the game in the 90th minute of play to give his team the 2-1 victory.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
