Wagiya FC white wash the Police United FC in Premier League Football competition Print E-mail

The Premier League of Belize Closing Season competition continued over the Easter weekend with three games played.

On Sunday 1st April, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, Wagiya won its second game in as many weeks when it blanked the Police United FC by the score of 2-0.

The first goal of the game was scored by Jonard Castillo in the 35th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was further increased when Shanty Castillo scored the 2nd goal of the game in the 65th minute of play to give his team the 2-0 victory.

Meanwhile, out at the Ambergris Stadium in San Pedro Town, the national defending champions, Verdes FC blanked the San Pedro Pirates FC by the score of 1-0.

The only goal of the game was scored by Alcides Thomas in the 34th minute of play.

The game that was scheduled for the MCC Grounds between the Placencia Assassins FC and the Belize Defence Force FC did not played as the Placencia Assassins FC was a no-show.

And then on Thursday 29th March, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Belmopan Bandits defeated the Freedom Fighters FC by the score of 4-2.

The Freedom Fighters FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Myron Cadle scored the 1st goal of the game in the 59th minute of play to give his team an early lead. However, the lead was short lived when Georgie Welcome scored the equalising goal for the Belmopan Bandits in the 63rd minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. The Belmopan Bandits took the lead when Hector Martinez scored the go-ahead goal for his team in the 63rd minute of play to give his team a 2-1 lead.

The lead was further increased when Rene Leslie scored his team’s 3rd goal of the game in the 66th minute of play for a 3-1 lead. Elroy Smith then made it 4-1 when he scored his team’s final goal of the game in the 77th minute of play for a commanding lead. The visiting Freedom Fighters did not go quietly into that goodnight when Yusef Vernon scored his team 2nd and final goal of the game in the 79th minute of play to cut the deficit into half. However, it was not enough.

At the end of last week of play, both the defending champions Verdes FC and the current leader’s in the competition, the Belmopan Bandits SC has qualified for the next round of competition.
