After almost 3-months on remand, Dangriga resident Hezron Ellis, 21-year-old student, is out on bail after he was accused of having sexual intercourse with a minor. Ellis’s bail application was heard before Supreme Court Judge Justice Marilyn Williams on Friday, April 6.

Ellis was first arraigned in December 2018 and was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison but on his latest court date, there was no objection to bail by the DPP’s office. As a result, he was offered bail in the sum of $5,000 plus one surety of the same which he was able to meet.

As a condition of his bail, he is to report to the Dangriga Police Station every Friday effective April 13 until the conclusion of his case. He was also ordered to stay at least 100 yards from the virtual complainant and her home, school, and work as well as to not contact her via any way.

Ellis’s next court date is set for May 29, 2018.
