The Premier League of Belize Closing Season Tournament continued over the weekend with four games on the schedule.

On Sunday 8th April, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the defending champions Verdes FC and the league’s leading Belmopan Bandits SC played to a 1-1 draw.

The defending champions Verdes FC was the first to make it onto the scoreboard when Krisean Lopez scored his team’s only goal of the game in the 2nd minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The visiting Belmopan Bandits SC was able to tie the score at 1-1 when Rony Flores scored the equalising goal in the 25th minute of play.

The defence for both teams played up to expectations as nobody gave up anything else for the rest of the game.

Out at the Victor Sanchez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town, the Freedom Fighters kept their playoffs hope alive when it edged out the San Pedro Pirates FC by the score of 2-1.

It was the host team, the Freedom Fighters that made it onto the scoreboard first when Alexander Peters scored the 1st goal of the game in the 44th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead.

In the opening minutes of the second half of the game, the visiting San Pedro Pirates FC made it onto the scoreboard when Gabriel Chavez scored the equalising goal in the 47th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

However, the Freedom Fighters sealed the deal when Zidane Hines scored his team’s go-ahead goal in the 91st minute of play for the win and the hopes of playoffs bound.

Meanwhile, at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan, the Police United FC blanked the Belize Defence Force FC by the score of 1-0.

The only goal of the game was scored by Orlando Jimenez in the 95th minute of play for the whitewash win.

And then on Saturday 7th April, at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium in Independence Village, Wagiya picked up its fourth win of the 2017—2018 Closing Season when it defeated the Placencia Assassins FC by the score of 4-1.

The visiting Wagiya FC was the first to get onto the scoreboard when Byron Chavez scored the 1st goal of the game in the 7th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was further increased when Shanty Castillo sored his team 2nd goal of the game in the 38th minute of play for a 2-0 lead. The lead was further extended when Jonard Castillo scored the 1st of his 2 goals in the 44th minute of play for a 3-0 lead.

In the second half of the game, Elmore Godoy was able to put his team onto the scoreboard when he scored in the 60th minute of play to cut the deficit to 2 for a 3-1 game. Unfortunately, for the Placencia Assassins FC, the visiting Wagiya FC was just too much for it when it allowed Jonard Castillo to score his 2nd and final goal of the game in the 86th minute of play for the lopsided win.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with four more games on the schedule.
