At about 3:30 p.m. on April 6, 2018, police responded to a report of a road traffic accident between miles 50 and 51 on the Phillip Goldson Highway. Upon arrival at the scene, they observed an extensively damaged grey Chevrolet Tracker flipped over.

Victoria Garcia, a 33-year-oldĀ  Belizean domestic of a Progresso, Cayo District address was seen suffering from a cut wound to her forehead, abrasion to the left side of her face, and in an unconscious state. Carlos Arturo Sabtos, a 21-year-old Belizean laborer of the same address, complained of pain to his lower back.

Preliminary investigations revealed that while Garcia was driving, she experienced mechanical problems which caused her to lose control of the vehicle and run into a ditch that resulted in the vehicle flipping over. Garcia was thrown out of the vehicle. She was transported to the NRH and thereafter to the KHMH in a critical condition.
