Pepsi National Elite Basketball League playoffs taking shape Print E-mail

The regular season for the Pepsi National Elite Basketball competition is fast winding down. The competition will continue this coming weekend with three games on the schedule.

During last week’s play, the Orange Walk Running Rebels won its first game of this year’s senior campaign when it defeated the defending champions the Belmopan Bandits by the score of 79-76.

The top scorers for the Orange Walk Running Rebels were James Ewing with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal; Roger Reneau with 13 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal and Elvis Olivera who scored 12 points with go along with his 3 rebounds and 2 assists. For the Belmopan Bandits, the top scorers were Luther de Shane Page who scored 22 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and 4 steals; Gregory Rudon who scored 17 points, 4 rebounds and an assist and Leon Jacob who contributed 12 points, 2 rebounds and an assist.

In the game played at the St. Catherine Academy Mercy Centre between the Digicell Belize City Defenders and the visiting Verdes team, it was the Verdes squad that prevailed with a 62-55 win.

The top scorers for the Verdes team were Richard Troyer with 20 points and 5 rebounds; Isaiah Thomas with 10 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists and a steal; Gene Myvett who also scored 10 points to go along with 9 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal and Elvis Usher who also scored 10 points and 8 rebounds.

For the Digicell Belize City Defenders the top scorers were Nigel Jones with 19 points, 15 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal and Jacob Leslie with 18 points and 2 rebounds.

And in the game played at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the San Pedro Tiger Sharks upended the Griga Dream Ballers by the score of 81-61.

The top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were Martevuius Adams with 24 points and 10 rebounds; Jihad Wright with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals and Emory Bennett Jr. who scored 13 points along with his 9 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

For the Dangriga Dream Ballers, the top scorers were Tahj Wells with 13 points and 12 rebounds; Daniel Nolberto who scored 11 points and 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals and Brandon Flowers who also scored 11 points, to go along with his 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

The competition will continue on Friday 20th April with 2 games on the schedule. At the Belize Elementary School Auditorium at 9:00 pm Belmopan Bandits will go up against the Smart Belize Hurricanes. And at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town also at 9:00 pm the Orange Walk Running Rebels will go up against Verdes.

And on Saturday 21st April at 9:00 pm at the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the Digicell Belize City Defenders will go up against the San Pedro Tiger Sharks.
