The Premier League of Belize Closing Season competition continued last Sunday 15th April with three of the four games on the schedule played.

At the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, the defending champions Verdes FC, will go into the playoff round as the number two seed and on a winning high, after it blasted the Police United FC by the score of 7-1.

The host team was the first onto the scoreboard when Nahjib Guerra scored the 1st goal of the game in the 5th minute of play to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead was extended when Roberto Silva scored the 2nd goal of the game in the 22nd minute of play for a 2-0 lead. The first half of the game ended in favour of the Verdes FC.

The Police United FC was able to make it onto the scoreboard when Andres Makin scored the 49th minute of play to cut the deficit in half. However, an own goal by Cristobal Gilharry in the 64th minute of play extended the Verdes FC lead to 3-1. The Verdes lead was further extended when Everall Trapp scored in the 70th minute of play for a 4-1 lead. The lead became 5-1 when Jarret Davis scored via a penalty kick in the 73rd minute of play. Gilroy Thurton then made it a 6-1 game when he scored in the 87th minute of play, while Sean Caliz’s goal in the 90th minute of play sealed the 7-1 victory.

At the MCC Grounds in Belize City, the top seed into the playoffs the Belmopan Bandits SC, and the host team the Belize Defence Force FC played to a 2-2 draw.

The Belize Defence Force FC was the first to make it to the scoreboard when Tarrell Flores scored his first goal in the 34th minute of play to give his team a temporary lead. However, that lead was short-lived as the Belmopan Bandits’ Rony Flores scored the equalising goal in the 36th minute of play to tie the score at 1-1.

In the second half of the game, the Belmopan Bandits SC was able to take the lead when Hector Martinez scored his goal in the 56th minute of play for a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately for the Belmopan Bandits SC, the goal scored by Tarrell Flores in the 72nd minute of play to tie the score at 2-2 proved to be the goal that would denied it of a victory.

Meanwhile, at the Carl Ramos Stadium in Dangriga Town, the game played between Wagiya FC and the visiting San Pedro Pirates ended in a 0-0 draw.

While the game that was scheduled for the Victor Galvez Union Field in Punta Gorda Town between the Freedom Fighters and the Placencia Assassins FC had to be postponed.
