There were over 5,000 persons in attendance at the Maskall Agriculture Village Fair on Sunday, April 22, 2018. The fair, which was held on the Maskall Community Grounds, was jointly hosted by Minister of Transport and NEMO, Hon. Edmond Castro, who is also the area representative for Belize Rural North, and the Maskall Village Council. Special guests and speakers at the opening ceremony included the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Godwin Hulse, and Minister of State and Dangriga Area Representative, Hon. Frank “Papa” Mena.

The fair featured livestock and farm produce displays as well as a wide assortment of village style local and cultural dishes. A number of Belizean artists accompanied by the Youth Connection Band provided musical entertainment. Along with the legendary Poots “Titiman” Flores, other Belizean artists that have become a fixture at CLEAR THE LAND events include: Belize’s own Border Tsar, Cocono Bwai, Brukdown Specialist, Harrison “Dawggie” King, and Belizean Punta Queen. Another versatile singing sensation, Joannie Martinez, has also been added.

There were also cultural performances by the youths and games for the children. One major highlight of the fair was a museum display depicting various aspects of life in Maskall as it used to be.

The fair also featured the opening all-day marathon for the 2018 edition of the Annual CLEAR THE LAND Football Cup. 22 teams entered in the senior, junior, and female categories, with a total of 396 players, all of whom received uniforms donated by Minister Castro.

This is the second year that the fair was held and Minister Castro, who is himself a resident of Maskall, says it has quickly become a yearly tradition.
