A 41-year-old unemployed Bulgarian national, Vasil Stoyanov Kadalov, is being accused of stealing ,000 from the Atlantic Bank account of Donald Stuart, a resident of Caye Caulker. Kadalov was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Aretha Ford on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 where he was read two counts of theft.

The allegations against Kadalov are that on April 14, 2018, he stole the sum of $2,000 Belize currency from an Atlantic Bank account. According to Stuart, he made checks on his account and noticed that $2,000 was missing. Upon this discovery, he went into the bank and was told that two transactions of $1,000 cash each were made; two transactions he never made. He reported the matter to police which led to the arrest of Kadalov.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges through a translator but because he is considered a flight risk, has no fixed address, and was unable to tell of his friends and/ or family in Belize, he was denied bail.

Kadalov was remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until June 6, 2018 when he is to appear in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court.

There are still two Bulgarians serving time in Belize for theft related charges from an ATM in Belize.
