Damion Dawson, a 27-year-old resident of Belize City, and Jonathan Almendarez, a 21-year-old resident of Teakettle Village, Cayo, were read charges of theft when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer. Dawson and Almendarez are accused of stealing $10,000 each from a customer’s Heritage Bank account in the Cayo District on October 27, 2017.

The bank was immediately alerted and used video camera footage showing Almendarez going into the bank to withdraw the cash. As a result, he has also been charged with handling stolen goods.

Bail was initially objected to given the fact that the matter is still under investigation but Dawson’s attorney, Arthur Saldivar, argued that his client was not a flight risk. Consequently, Dawson and Almendarez were offered bail in the sum of $6,000 each, which they met. The duo is due back in court on July 2, 2018.
