San Pedro Tiger Sharks is the top team into the Pepsi National Elite Basketball League playoffs Print E-mail

The Pepsi National Elite Basketball League regular season competition continued on April 21st, 2018, with three games across the country.

At the San Pedro High School Auditorium in San Pedro Town, the host team and the top team into the playoffs the San Pedro Tiger Sharks edged out the visiting Digicell Belize City Defenders by the score of 71-68.

The top scorers for the San Pedro Tiger Sharks were Martevuius Adams with 31 points, 23 rebounds and 3 steals and Jihad Wright with 18 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists.

For the Digicell Belize City Defenders, the top scorers were Ty Bradley with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals; Lincey Lopez with 14 points, 5 assists and 3 steals and Nigel Jones with 14 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals.

Out at the Sacred Heart College Auditorium in San Ignacio Town, Verdes defeated the Orange Walk Running Rebels by the score of 82-81.

The top scorers for the Verdes squad were Richard Troyer with 29 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 3 steals and Isaiah Thomas who scored 15 points to go along with his 5 rebounds and 1 assist and 2 steals.

For the Orange Walk Running Rebels, the top scorers were Vince Young who scored 30 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists; Roger Reneau who scored 18 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals and James Ewing who contributed 14 points to go along with his 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Meanwhile, at the St. Catherine Academy Mercy Centre in Belize City, the Smart Belize Hurricanes blasted the defending champions the Belmopan Bandits who had a dismal season by the score of 107-80.

The top scorers for the Smart Belize Hurricanes were Glency Lopez with 19 points, 5 assists and a steal; Kyle Young with 13 points and Eyan Rene who contributed 10 points towards the win.

The top scorers for the Belmopan Bandits were Stephen Williams with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists; Gregory Rudon with 15 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals and Luther da Shane Page with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists.

The competition will continue this coming weekend with three more games on the schedule. On Friday 27th April at 9:00 pm out at the University of Belize Gymnasium in Belmopan, Verdes will go up against the Belmopan Bandits. On Saturday 28th April at 9:00 pm out at the Russell ‘Chiste’ Garcia Auditorium in Dangriga Town, Smart Belize Hurricanes will see action against the Griga Dream Ballers while on Monday 30th April at 9:00 pm at the Belize City Civic Centre, the Digicell Belize City Defenders will go up against the Smart Belize Hurricanes.
