An armed robbery at the UNO gas station in San Ignacio town has led to the detention of two men. The two masked men strolled into the gas station on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. and held up the cashier with a .9mm pistol. They made away with $33,000 in cash and checks and ran out of the establishment and escaped in a Geo Prism car.

While the entire ordeal was caught on surveillance camera and civilians passing by, it was not as clear cut a case as it could have been since one of the robbers has an identical twin. Nonetheless, the police have since cracked the case and arrested and charged Marvin Phillips, a 19-year-old construction worker of a George Street address.

A second person has since been charged. He is Asher Saunders, another resident of Belize City. He was charged with 3 counts of robbery, 2 counts of aggravated assault, and 1 count of grievous harm. None of the stolen cash has been recovered.

It is the belief of the police that known Belize City criminals are targeting out district establishments, especially the districts of Cayo, Corozal and Orange Walk.
