Belize Police were able to take another illegal firearm off the streets when they arrested and charged Malique Gentle for the offense of keeping unlicensed firearm and ammunitions. The 21-year-old was arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday, May 7, 2018 before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford.

Gentle was unrepresented before the magistrate where he was read the two firearm related offenses. He was read one count of keeping firearm without a gun license for allegedly having a 9mm pistol in his possession. He was also read one count of keeping ammunition without being granted a gun license by the COMPOL for allegedly having 17 live rounds of ammunitions in his possession.

The bust was made on Saturday, May 5, 2018 on Sarstoon Street at around 3:50 p.m. Police officers were on a mobile patrol on Vernon Street when they saw Gentle turning into Mopan Street. He was seen throwing an object under a house on Sarstoon Street. Searches under the house led the police to discover Gentle hiding from them as well as the objects in question.

Gentle pleaded not guilty to both firearm related offenses but due to the nature of the offenses, he was denied bail and remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison until August 7, 2018.
