A Hattieville resident, 45-year-old Albert Jones Senior, is on remand after he allegedly confessed to the murder of Alaine Garcia, a mechanic of Hattieville. According to police, Jones Sr. confessed to the murder but the body of Garcia remains unfound.

Jones Sr. appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford on Thursday, May 10, 2018 where he was read the charge of murder. Because the charge is an indictable offense, no plea was taken from him and will be tried at the Supreme Court. The magistrate explained that she could not grant him bail. As a result, he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until June 26, 2018.

According to the relatives of Garcia, he was last seen on February 20, 2018 after he walked his children to the school bus. The reports are that while he was walking back home, he was fired at as shots rang out in the area. But according to relatives, police made them believe that Garcia had been detained pending the shooting and so it was not until three days later that a missing person report was made.
