A robbery at a restaurant on Nim Li Punit Street in Belmopan just before 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2018 led to a police chase. Police officers responded to the location after reports of a robbery and upon arrival at the scene, a white Ford Escape was seen leaving. The police pursued the car and the occupants fired upon the police leading them to return fire. A car chase soon ensued but ended with the vehicle being abandoned and later found in an off road in Cotton Tree Village. The vehicle has since been impounded but according to ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National CIB, because there was no license plate on the vehicle, no arrests have been made.

According to police, the robbers got away with an undisclosed amount of cash and jewelry. Initial investigation revealed that three men, one masked, entered the restaurant and robbed the owner of his personal belongings before fleeing in the SUV. Police investigation into this matter continues.
